Microphone problems

Microphone problems can be caused by a buggy Windows 10 update, I will be glad to set up a remote session to determine if audio problems can be repaired remotely. Please submit a new help desk ticket and include "sound trouble shooting steps did not solve the audio problem" in the ticket subject line (Brief description of computer problem).


The microphone issue one of the biggest annoyances in Windows 10. Sometimes Windows 10 doesn't work easily with many recording devices, even if they're built in to the computer. Usually, if a connected or built-in mic isn't working it's usually a settings problem, and not a problem with the microphone itself.


Please test your Google Hangouts/Meet audio settings settings:

If you prefer to try some more troubleshooting first, please view the steps in this link and follow the steps while logged into the PC with the Parent account . Microsoft's major updates can reset privacy settings. Resets can cause apps and programs to become unable your webcam and microphone. To restore access and permissions:. 


1. Open PC Settings from your start menu or click on the taskbar Cortana icon and type "Privacy" (no quotation marks).


2. Click on Privacy in order to access all your privacy settings.

  


3. Select Microphone from the left pane, click the Change button and turn on microphone for this device.


4. Turn on Allow apps to access your microphone and make sure to turn on microphone access for every app you want to give permission to access your microphone. Repeat the same steps for the webcam.

 

5. Test online mic again. If the mic is still misbehaving, you might need to check additional audio settings in windows. Right-click on the speaker icon in the bottom-right part of the screen and choose Sounds.


6. Click on the Recording tab in order to see your recording devices list. A list of recording devices will appear. Speak into your microphone to see if there any green bars rising next to one of them while you talk. Set the default recording device: click once on the working mic to highlight it, and then click Set Default (check mark). Check again if you see green bars rising when you talk into the microphone. If green bars appear when you speak into the microphone but the mic still doesn't work in a particular program, then the device is correctly configured in Windows, but the program is listening to the wrong recording device. Try changing the misbehaving program's settings step 13.


7. If the microphone is not responding (no green bars), double-click on the default device that represents your microphone. The Microphone Properties window will open. Click the "Levels" tab-- make sure that "Microphone" and "Microphone Boost" are set to the maximum by sliding them to the right until the first one shows 100 and the boost is set to max dB. Then click "OK".


8. In the "Enhancements" tab (if found), make sure to uncheck the "Disable all sound effects" checkbox. In the " Advanced" tab, uncheck the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device," the "Enable audio enhancements" check boxes and click "OK".


12. In the main Sound devices panel, click the "Communications" tab and select the "Do nothing" radio button and click "OK".

13. Restart your computer and recheck your recording devices panel. If you see green bars rising when you talk into the microphone - your mic is now properly configured. If your mic is still not responding and you're unsure which one of the devices is the correct one, try the steps above for each recording device listed.
